- 1 What is your research about?
-
We are investigating mechanisms of inflammation and overall immune responses to noxious stimuli, trying to understand the effect of ageing, obesity and diet on inflammation and related diseases such as diabetes, response to infections etc.
- 2 Why is it important?
-
Understanding these mechanisms we can identify new therapies. We also test the effect of different nutritional products in inflammation.
- 3 What inspired you to pursue this path?
-
Curiosity and the love to learn and explore. The fact that the response of otherwise similar individuals to inflammation and infection differs and we cannot fully explain why.
- 4 What do you like most about research?
-
The unexpected results that we have to explain
- 5 What advice would you give to a child who loves science?
-
Follow their dreams without barriers or compromises and if something does not work or is not as expected change it.
- 6 Fun fact: Tell us something about yourself that not many people know.
-
I came to the University of Crete from the USA without having any connection with Crete, for the quality of research, the sea and windsurfing.
