The Technical University of Crete (TUC) is one of Greece’s leading public universities, located in Chania, with more than 40 years of academic and research experience. It comprises five Schools covering a broad range of engineering disciplines and offers undergraduate, postgraduate, and doctoral programmes, while carrying out research across a wide range of engineering and technology fields.
The mission of the Technical University of Crete is to provide high-quality education and conduct advanced research, with a strong focus on excellence, innovation, and addressing the needs of society and the economy. Through interdisciplinary research, international collaboration, and knowledge transfer, Technical University of Crete develops innovative solutions to today’s technological challenges.
The Technical University of Crete actively participates in the European project STEPS – Science for Growth: Empowering Minds, contributing its expertise in scientific research, engineering education, and the development of innovative interdisciplinary applications. Its participation supports the project’s primary objective: to build meaningful bridges between the research community, education, and society.
With five Schools of Engineering and an extensive network of modern laboratories and research facilities, the Technical University of Crete provides an environment where scientific knowledge is closely connected with design, experimentation, and practical application. Education and research are approached as creative processes through which a question can develop into an idea, an initial design into a prototype, and a setback into the starting point for a more effective solution.
This philosophy is closely aligned with the concept of a Growth Mindset, which lies at the heart of STEPS. The Technical University of Crete contributes to presenting research as a dynamic process that requires curiosity, perseverance, collaboration, and continuous improvement. The aim is to help students understand that scientific progress depends not only on finding the correct answer, but also on being willing to ask questions, explore different approaches, and learn from the outcomes of every attempt.
As part of the Researchers’ Night and Researchers at Schools initiatives, the Technical University of Crete will contribute to the development of hands-on workshops, creative activities, and science communication presentations. Students will have the opportunity to interact with researchers and engineers, discover how a research idea is developed, and participate in activities that bring together science, technology, engineering, the arts, and mathematics.
Particular emphasis is placed on the Learning Labs, which transform the classroom into a space for exploration, design, and collaboration. Rather than simply attending a presentation, students are encouraged to observe, experiment, build, evaluate, and refine their ideas.
