European Researchers’ Night 2026 — Events

The European Researchers’ Night is an open celebration of science and research, creating a vibrant space for meaningful encounters between researchers and society.

For one evening, research moves beyond universities and laboratories and comes closer to the public. Children, young people, families, educators, and visitors of all ages have the opportunity to meet researchers, talk with them, and discover first-hand how scientific questions emerge and how research contributes to understanding and improving the world around us.

Through interactive workshops, experiments, scientific demonstrations, presentations, games, and hands-on activities, visitors do not simply observe science—they actively engage with it. They can observe, ask questions, experiment, make predictions, test ideas, and explore possible answers together with researchers.

The European Researchers’ Night also offers an opportunity to meet the people behind the research: to discover what inspires them, which questions drive their work, what challenges they encounter, and how an idea, a question, or even an unexpected result can lead to a new discovery.

Emphasis is placed on children and young people, with the aim of fostering curiosity, creativity, and confidence through their engagement with research. Through these experiences, they are encouraged to explore, question, seek evidence-based answers, and discover new possibilities.

As part of the STEPS project, the European Researchers’ Night is intended to be more than an event. It is an experience that brings science closer to everyday life, strengthens dialogue between research and society, and inspires the next generation.

At STEPS, we believe that science is not something we simply observe. It is something we can all question, explore, experiment with, and discover—together.
