Our research deals with proteins, the tiny “machines” that do almost all the work inside our cells. We try to understand how they work, how they change conformations and how they interact with each other, and how we can modify or enhance their action.

The better we understand how proteins work, the better we can understand how life itself works. This knowledge may in the future help us design new therapies, better drugs, and new applications in biotechnology.

What drew me to research was the curiosity to understand how something we can’t see with our eyes works. Proteins are incredibly small, but the way they move, change shape, and work together largely determines how a living organism functions. The idea that we can “see” this invisible world through an experiment is what made me love research.

In research you never know exactly what you’ll discover. You might start an experiment expecting a certain result and end up observing something completely different. And often, those surprises are the most interesting part of science!

Το never stop asking “why?” and “how?”. Don’t be afraid to make mistakes and try again. In science, an experiment that didn’t go as expected isn’t necessarily a failure, it’s often the beginning of a new discovery.

If someone had told me when I was little that one day I would become a Chemist and have my own research lab, I probably wouldn’t have believed them. Back then, Chemistry wasn’t even one of my favorite subjects!
