1 Με τι ασχολείται η έρευνά σας;

Our research aims to replace precious and toxic metals used as catalysts in many chemical reactions, such as palladium, with inexpensive and non-toxic metals such as iron. At the same time, we use electrical energy to carry out chemical reactions, reducing the amount of additional reagents required and the waste produced.

2 Γιατί είναι σημαντική;

Chemistry, and metal catalysis in particular, is used in the production of pharmaceuticals, materials, and many everyday products. By replacing toxic and precious metal-based catalysts with non-toxic and less expensive ones, such as iron, we can significantly reduce not only the cost of the products we make, but also the risks to human health and the environment.

3 Tι σας ενέπνευσε να ακολουθήσετε αυτό το δρόμο;

What fascinates me about chemistry is that it gives us the power of transformation. We can start with simple materials and create something new, such as a new substance that we can literally hold in our hands. Nature is often a source of inspiration, but chemistry allows us to create compounds with unique properties that do not exist in the natural environment.

4 Τι σας αρέσει περισσότερο στην έρευνα;
5 Τι συμβουλή θα δίνατε σε ένα παιδί που αγαπά την επιστήμη;

Maintain your enthusiasm and curiosity. Always ask “why?”, take nothing for granted, and think critically. Keep an inquiring mind, look for answers yourself and, above all, enjoy the process of discovery. At the same time, do not neglect your own development as a person: take care of yourself physically and emotionally, and cultivate your character and integrity. A good scientist needs not only knowledge and ability, but also the human qualities required to use them well.

6 Fun fact: Πείτε μας κάτι που δεν γνωρίζουν πολλοί για εσάς

Outside chemistry, I enjoy building and repairing things and working with metalworking machinery. A chemistry laboratory and a machine shop have quite a lot in common: in both, you start with an idea and try to turn it into something tangible.
