My research focuses on childhood cancer and blood disorders. We aim to better understand why these diseases develop and how can be treated more effectively. We study tumour cells, the hematopoietic system and new targeted treatments that may be both more effective and less burdensome for children.

Every child deserves the best possible care and the opportunity to grow up healthy. Research helps us identify treatments that improve the chances of cure, reduce side effects and enhance the quality of life of children and their families.

I was inspired by the wish to combine science with direct care for patients. In paediatric hematology – oncology, caring for a child and their family shows every day how important it is to turn questions from the laboratory into better solutions in clinical practice.

I enjoy the fact that research starts with a question and can lead to a discovery that makes a real difference. I also value collaboration: physicians, biologists, nurses, students and families can work together towards a shared goal.

Keep your curiosity alive, and do not be afraid to ask “why?” and “how?”. Science does not require knowing every answer; it begins with the courage to explore a good question and to learn from every result.
