The Researchers at Schools activity brings science and research closer to the school community, connecting researchers, educators, and pupils through direct interaction and who researchers are and what they do.

Researchers invite pupils to experience research as a process of questioning, inquiry, experimentation, and discovery. Through hands-on activities, pupils ask questions, formulate hypotheses, test ideas, collaborate, and explore how scientific research connects with real-world challenges.

The activity places a strong emphasis on the Growth Mindset, encouraging pupils to see challenges and mistakes as opportunities to learn, try new approaches, and persevere. The mindset of “don’t know yet” becomes a starting point for curiosity, learning, and discovery.

By meeting the people behind the research, pupils gain a relatable understanding of researchers and their work, including the questions, challenges, and unexpected discoveries that are part of the research process.

Through collaboration with educators, these experiences can also connect with classroom learning and continue beyond the workshop, supporting lasting engagement with science.

Through STEPS, we want children not only to discover science, but to see themselves as part of it — empowered to ask questions, explore, experiment, learn from challenges, make discoveries, and grow along the way.
